HART to Hold 22nd Congress on Friday
Hartford Areas Rally Together (HART) will hold its 22nd annual HART Congress on Friday, October 24 at Moylan School at 6 pm.
The Congress is an opportunity for city residents to learn more about issues facing Hartford.
Guests are scheduled to include the State Insurance Commissioner George Reider, Mayor Mike Peters, and Senate Majority Leader Kevin Sullivan.
Issues to be discussed include the high cost of car insurance, high mortgages with declining equity/value, and high property taxes based on 1988 values.
Jobs, education, city services, and more will also be on the agenda.
HART is looking to have an impact on the city's abandoned buildings as well as redevelopment of the Rice Heights Housing Project.
The group would also like to see additional resources devoted to expand job training and placement efforts.
The group is also looking to have an impact on "quality of life" offenses like littering, loitering, public drinking, etc., while demanding a crackdown on crime, drugs, and gangs.
Other concerns are police accountability, improvements in school learning and test scores, and ensuring property revaluation is a fair process.
The Congress will be chaired by The Hartford Courant's Tom Condon.
Other guests scheduled to appear are Chief of Staff for Governor Rowland Peter Ellef, State Representative Marie Kirkley-Bey, State Representative Art Feltman, Deputy Mayor Frances Sanchez, and Chief of Police Joseph Coughwell, and more.
For more information, call David at HART: 525-3449.
